Walk the Tegalalang Rice Terraces

A working terrace system on a steep valley wall, twenty minutes north. Entry is IDR 25,000 to 50,000 and the walk down and back takes an hour. Arrive before 9am, because coaches come from mid-morning and the swing queues build fast.

Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

A 12.5-hectare reserve in town with several hundred long-tailed macaques and three 14th-century temples. Adults pay IDR 130,000, children IDR 100,000. Allow ninety minutes, and leave sunglasses, loose bags and food in the car.

Hike the Campuhan Ridge Walk

A free two-kilometre path along a grass ridge between two rivers. Start by 6.30am for cool air and clear views; there is no shade after 9am. The round trip takes about an hour and ends near the Karsa Kafe cluster.

Take a Balinese Cooking Class

Half-day classes begin with a market visit and cost IDR 400,000 to 600,000 per person including transport and lunch. Most teach base gede spice paste, sate lilit and lawar, which explains much of what you later eat in warungs.

Tegalalang Rice Terraces

These are very beautiful green fields shaped like steps. You can walk along the pathways, take photos, and relax. Very calm. You can also try a really huge swing that goes way high up.

Campuhan Ridge Walk

This is a nice walk up a hill where you can find spectacular views of the green valleys and even the river. A good point to walk around either morning or evening.

Tegenungan Waterfall

It is a large and gorgeous waterfall where one can swim and take pictures. However, be warned that you have to climb down quite a number of steps to reach it.

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

For this place, it has been a forest where numerous monkeys reside. Surrounded by very ancient temples and huge trees. Just guard your things as the monkeys are curious.

Ubud Palace

This is an ancient palace, which formerly belonged to kings and is now a house show. Outside the palace, one can wander about. Pretty buildings, and in the evening, one gets to view Balinese dances.

Tirta Empul Temple

This temple is among those that have holy water; people come here to bathe in the water. You can view or join them, just dress well.

Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave)

It is an ancient cave with engravings in the rocks. Mysterious hence interesting, it can be explored. You can also walk in the gardens.

When is the best time to go to Ubud?

The best time for Scuba diving is from April to October when it is not raining and the temperatures are pleasant for excursions. Ubud is beautiful all year through, though, since the rainy season can be described from November to March as being barren and having many fewer tourists.
