Another integral part of Bali's entry requirements is meeting the customs declaration requirements. You need to complete the digital immigration process online up to three days before your plane lands in Bali.

1. What Do You Need to Prepare Before Arriving in Bali (or anywhere else in Indonesia)?
Part 1: Your Passport and Visa
The first step is checking that you have the right documents to enter Indonesia.

You have two simple but vital rules to check before you travel:
- Passport Valid Time: Your passport needs to be good for at least six more months starting from the exact day you land in Bali. This is a strict rule.
- Leaving Ticket: You must hold a confirmed ticket to leave Indonesia (either back home or to any other country) before the time limit of your visa runs out. You will need to show this.

There are two mandatory things you must complete before or upon arrival in Bali.
1. The “All Indonesia” Arrival Card (Mandatory Form)
Indonesia has created a simple, combined digital form called the “All Indonesia” Arrival Card. This replaces the old separate forms for health and customs, making your arrival much faster.
- When to Fill It Out: You must fill it out within 3 days (72 hours) before you arrive.
- What It Is: It collects your information for immigration, customs, and health checks.
- What You Get: Once you finish, you will get a QR code sent to your email. You must show this code at the immigration and customs desks.
- Cost: This form is free of charge. Be careful of websites that try to charge you money for it—those are scams!
2. The Bali Tourist Levy (Tax)
All international travelers have to pay a one-time tourist tax, also called the Bali Tourist Levy.
- The Cost: The fee is IDR 150,000 per person (about 10 US dollars). This fee is separate from any visa cost.
- How to Pay: It is best to pay for this online before you arrive using the official “Love Bali” website or app. This saves you time at the airport. You will get a QR code as proof of payment.
- The Purpose: The money is used to protect Bali’s beautiful environment and preserve its local culture.
3. Speeding Up Your Arrival at the Airport
Using the Bali Autogates
Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport has special Automated Gates (Autogates). It helps you skip the long waiting lines at the regular counters.
- Who Can Use Them: People with an electronic passport should register online ahead of time. This is mostly effective for travelers with an e-Visa or e-VoA, as well as citizens of certain countries with special visa-free deals (like ASEAN nations).
- How to Use Them: You must pre-register your passport details online through the official Indonesian immigration portal before your flight. Once you do that once, you can use the Autogates on all your trips to Bali! You can get through immigration this way in as little as 5 minutes.

The main airport in Bali is I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, and its code is DPS. Just remember it is located south of Kuta, not actually inside Denpasar city.
Finally, some travelers fly to Jakarta (CGK) first because international flights there can be cheaper. If you choose this route, you must allow at least 4 hours between your international flight landing in Jakarta and your domestic flight leaving for Bali.
You need this time to clear immigration, pick up all your luggage, and move over to the domestic terminal.
